The Merriest, Happiest Holiday Decorations at New York City Hotels, 2022 Edition

If we had choose just one word to describe the 2022 holiday season in New York City, we’d go with normal. And hey, after two years of pandemic craziness, normal sounds downright scintillating.

Lighting the way towards a blissful normalcy are the city’s hotels, dressed to dazzle whether you’re checking in — 6.5 million visitors were expected between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day — or just checking them out, as we do every year. Camera in hand, we captured 11 deliciously decked halls, walls, and even sidewalks at hotels all over Manhattan — and added the city’s showpiece outdoor tree just because.

Ice cream is my favorite two word answer, especially when it’s in a cone. It seems Michael Mignano, Executive Pastry Chef at The Pierre New York, agrees.

In the spirit of long days, soaring temperatures and lazy afternoons (or memories of them), he’s concocted the summer’s cleverest pop-up dessert: four miniature hand-crafted cones filled with ice cream made from sun-season fruits — white peach raspberry, Alphonse mango, white chocolate strawberry, wild blueberry verbena. Want to Stage a Fashion Show During New York Fashion Week? Check Into a Hotel

For two hours late Monday afternoon the ballroom at the Pierre Hotel was transformed into Versailles, or Versailles as dreamed up by designer Stacey Benedet for her alice + olivia Spring 2015 collection.

Models flaunting Benedet’s flirty dresses — Halston-esque halter necklines, chiffon accordion pleats — stood grouped in themed tableaux. Carpets of faux grass — miniature golf, anyone? — blanketed the real carpeting to create a garden room where the Pierre’s fanciful frescoes of Versailles backdropped the models. Read more

Scotch on the Rocks With A New Twist at The Pierre

Dark libations like bourbon and rye don’t wind up in cocktails nearly as often as the clear stuff, like vodka and gin. But they get mixed with something other than water a lot more than scotch.

Purists might say the reason is obvious. Or as my husband puts it, why ruin a great single malt?

That, of course, makes scotch the Everest of cocktail ingredients, a liquid gauntlet thrown down to adventurous bartenders. The mixing team at The Pierre’s Two-e Bar couldn’t resist temptation. Read more
