Bon Appétit! These NYC Hotel Restaurants Are Celebrating French Restaurant Week

Bastille Day is right around the corner (Saturday, July 14 to be precise). And France is in the World Cup finals on Sunday. Do you need any more reasons to dig into French Restaurant Week 2018 in New York?

This year 22 restaurants around town encourage you to Eat Drink and Be French with three-course lunches for $25, three-course dinners for $38 or a special multi-course $178.89 prix fixe feast for two through July 15. Two are at hotels. Bon appétit.

Bistrot Leo at Sixty SoHo
At this time last year, Italian restaurant Sessanta occupied the desirable ground floor digs at SIXTY SoHo, the boutique hotel formerly known as 60 Thompson. But at some point, restaurateur John MacDonald decided the space should be French. In April, Bistrot Leo opened with a Francophile look (red and white check floor tiles, blue banquets, white tablecloths), a new chef (Brian Loiacono of Bar Boulud) and a French menu (so long grilled orata with salsa verde, hello escargot with garlic and herb butter). Bistrot Leo offers inviting version of all three French Restaurant Week options. But the four-course $178.89 for two includes 1/2 dozen oysters.

Perrine at the Pierre
Perrine is another French-inflected replacement for an Italian restaurant, in this case Sirio Maccioni’s Sirio, which bowed out at the Pierre in 2016. India-born chef Ashfir Biju oversees the mostly locally sourced French American fare served in a long, narrow space that’s serene and remarkably unstuffy, despite the white tablecloths and pedigreed Fifth Avenue address. There’s no French Restaurant Week lunch. But the green gazpacho soup made with leeks, avocado, cucumber and jalapeño caught my eye on the FWR three-course dinner. It also appears on the five-course $178.89 menu along with a citrus crème brûlée served with vanilla madeleines for a Proustian touch.
