Want to Pay $100 for a New York City Hotel Room?

Central Park after dark.

$200 a night: Central Park view at The Roger.

You’ll have to come to town in January.

But 12 hotels are offering rooms for $100 during the third annual New York Hotel Week, January 3 through 12, 2014.

Another $100 gets you 14 hotels in a spiffier range. And for $300 you can sample a pair of boutique hotels normally in the $400-plus range. Can Brooklyn Hotel Week be far behind?

The fine print: January is the hotel industry’s slowest month. Scoring a deal almost anywhere is easy as finding an empty seat at a showing of The Lone Ranger (if you can find a showing of The Lone Ranger). Still, Hotel Week packs a hefty line-up. And the prices are sweet.

What does $100 get you? Small rooms. But the Affinia Manhattan near Madison Square Garden and Tribeca’s Cosmopolitan, two vintage properties, look terrific after wrapping up serious renovations. And the sprightly Pod39 in midtown – home to agreeably priced Salvation Taco, launched by the Michelin-starred team of Chef April Bloomfield and restaurateur Ken Friedman — opened just over a year ago.

And $200? Expect high concept design. Old-style rotary dial phones sit next to the beds at the new Jade Hotel Greenwich Village. The desk legs ape those of old-style Singer sewing machines at the Fashion District’s new Refinery Hotel. And Chelsea’s Hotel Americano boasts a roof deck pool, in case January is unseasonably warm.

Or opt for a double deal. Free WiFi, a complimentary continental breakfast and wine and cheese sweeten the $200 rooms at the Casablanca Hotel Times Square, the Library Hotel, Hotel Giraffe on Park Avenue South and midtown’s Hotel Elysee.
To book, call the hotels directly and mention Hotel Week.

Thanks for the tip, and the list. It is an incentive to hold off a bit on Christmas spending and take a start-of-the-year vacation in New York.

January in NYC is not akin to April in Paris…these deals reflect that reality. Moscow on the Hudson more like it.

Marian and Eileen are returning to NYC in mid-March for girls only trip. Rates slightly lower than October rates. Discovered that October is one
of the most popular months for tourists; also, one of the most expensive for hotel rates. Something to do with “Autumn in New York, Why does it seem so inviting…”
