Macy’s unleashes their patented July 4 ode to the rockets’ red glare, aka the Macy’s Fireworks Show, tonight from a fleet of barges floating in the East River between 22nd and 42nd streets. That make Fireworks 2018 a three-borough spectacular, with viewing opportunities throughout much of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, provided there’s nothing tall to obstruct your view (good luck). If all goes as expected, The Plaza Hotel — overnight home to Christian Dior, Frank Lloyd Wright and the Beatles, backdrop to movies like North by Northwest and Crocodile Dundee and playground for the impish Eloise — is about to change hands once again for an eye-popping $600 million. It’s dream time for dog lovers. On February 12 and 13, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show unfurls, and the world’s top dogs descend upon the city.
You can buy a ticket to the big show at Madison Square Garden. Or you can save your money, hang out in the lobby of a hotel that caters to show dogs (and their minders) and watch a parade of exquisitely groomed world class animals bound for the show (and if they’re lucky, glory). Coincidentally on purpose, the three hotels anointed by the Kennel Club as Gold Class Partners are a short walk from the Garden. Dog watching couldn’t be easier. Read more
