Now You Can Use Your Apple Watch to Check Into a Marriott Hotel

Add Marriott to the short (but no doubt growing) list of hotels to declare themselves Apple Watch friendly.

Just in time for today’s debut of the shiny new wrist device, Marriott announced that Marriott Rewards members can check in and out of their rooms at 4,100 hotels using an Apple Watch, provided they download Marriott’s mobile app. The app also provides automatic receipt of room ready alerts, booking and review of reservations and detailed directions to the hotel. Why You’ll Soon See A Lot More Tip Envelopes in Hotel Rooms

You’ve probably come across an occasional tip envelope on your hotel room night stand, dutifully signed by the woman who cleaned the room.

Expect to see a lot more of them.

Yesterday Marriott announced a partnership with The Envelope Please, an initiative begun by Maria Shriver to encourage guests to tip the attendant who cleans their room. The deal puts tip envelopes in more than 160,000 guests rooms at participating Marriotts — Courtyard, Residence Inn, JW Marriott, Ritz Carlton, you get the idea —throughout the U.S. and Canada, beginning this week, which happens to be International Housekeepers Week. You Like Embassy Suites – And Your Favorite New TV Show is . . . “Sleepy Hollow?”

Chances are you said yes – or so says new data from NewMediaMetrics, an eight-year-old company that measures the emotional attachments of consumers to well-known brands. Each June NMM conducts its yearly study of 3,750 adults, between the ages of 18 and 64, to determine their emotional attachment, or EA, to top brands. Among the data digested by this year’s group was their emotional reaction to the concepts behind the new TV line-up. From there the company crunched the data on each subject’s loyalty to brands, including hotels. Read more

Lose That Zapper: Hotel Room Channel Surfing on a Mobile Device Is Here

Add the TV zapper to the list of hotel room amenities one step closer to the junk heap.

Last week LodgeNet, the largest provider of in-room entertainment, introduced a new app that lets hotel guests use their smartphones to operate the TV. The free LodgeNet Mobile App turns an iPhone, iPad or Android into a hotel room remote control that does it all —  turns the TV on and off, adjusts the sound and accesses free TV, on-demand TV and pay-per-view movies.  The app also serves up information about the hotel and local events, restaurants, maps and attractions.
