An Impromptu Grab ‘n Go at The New York Palace

Grab ‘n go at the Palace.

Here’s a picture you won’t be able to take at the New York Palace come September. “Well, hopefully not,” as a staff member put it.

If all goes as planned, the end of summer will herald the end of the hotel’s $100 million renovation. Much of the changes focused on the lobby, restaurants and conference rooms that fill the historic Villard Mansion, the McKim, Mead and White manse that forms the base of the glass-fronted hotel and towers. Also part of the renovation package: the Palace Gate, the hotel’s outdoor lounge in the courtyard and, for two summers running, home to a show of wildly colorful, upbeat outdoor sculpture.

There’s no sculpture this year. And the hotel’s bar and restaurants are also on hold until renovations end.

But room service is still up and running, unlike at some hotels. And as you can see, the Palace has a modest grab ‘n go where you least expect it. For now.
