It’s hard to think of a better time to be a dog lover in New York. This week the city embraces man’s best friend with the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, February 11 and 12, and a constellation of satellite events. From museums to hotels to Madison Square Garden, here’s where to see top dogs having their day in a city that loves them.

On February 8, the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog opened its stylish new Park Avenue home after nearly 30 years on the outskirts of St. Louis. Coincidentally on purpose, the three hotels anointed by the Kennel Club as Gold Class Partners are a short walk from the Garden. Dog watching couldn’t be easier.  Read more

As if Fashion Week wasn’t enough, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show scampers into town February 10 and 11 at Madison Square Garden. And for the 16th straight year, Affinia Manhattan is putting on the dog (sorry) with its dedicated dog suite and terrace where dogs can be dogs – and a staff member is on hand to clean up the Astroturf.

The Affinia’s puppy love is no fluke. Though pet friendliness is in its DNA – an oversized pet bed, food and water bowls, waste bags, and maps for dog walks are available year round – the hotel has the good fortune to stand across the street from the Garden and moves into high gear for Westminster. It’s serendipity that Fashion Week and the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show hit town at the same time this year. Show dogs are the canine version of supermodels. And like the leggy creatures strutting the catwalk at Lincoln Center, the furry creatures running the ring at Madison Square Garden, February 13 and 14, travel relentlessly. Read more
