NYC Hotels Where You Can Watch the 2018 Winter Olympics

Now that the  2018 Winter Olympics are officially underway, you get to decide where you want to watch half pipe, ice dancing, Nordic combined and the 95 other events unfurling in Pyeongchang between February 8 and 25. Sure you can watch in the privacy of your home. But if cheering on mixed doubles curling or speed skating in a crowd with drinks gets your pulse racing, these New York City hotel bars are going for gold.

The Biergarten and Cafe at Standard High Line is known for showing sports events from the Super Bowl to grand slam tennis, so bring on the Olympics with a side of  sausages, pretzels and beer. Screens blaze daily during regular hours: Monday through Thursday 4 pm to 1 am, Friday and Saturday noon to 2 am, Sunday noon to 1 am. Inspired by all those triple lutzes? Not to be outdone by its sibling by the Hudson, Standard East Village serves up the Olympics along with breakfast, lunch and dinner at Cafe Standard, a cozy, casual, wood-paneled hangout. In winter the Haven Rooftop at the Sanctuary Hotel becomes a window lined ski chalet, paneled with wood and strung with lights. The Olympics are screened continuously, from opening to close, February 9 through 22. Sip a cocktail, nibble a dessert or spring for dinner (steak au poivre, pan-seared salmon, bouillabaise). When you’ve had enough of the bobsled and biathalon, check out the views over Midtown. Dress is business casual, so skip the sneakers, workout clothes and hats if you plan to get a table.

The Eventi hotel has the good fortune to stand adjacent to Big Screen Plaza, home to one of Manhattan’s biggest outdoor screens. That means diners seated in the back room of The Vine, the relaxed contemporary restaurant that’s open all day, can watch assorted Olympic events on the Big Screen through the window. There’s no sound, but does snowboard cross really need voiceovers? Craft cocktails and chef Laurent Tourondel’s stylish food will hold your attention between triple salchows and downhill racing.
